After years of dealing with misalignment, you’re thinking about getting started with Invisalign. As eager as you are to see exactly how much it can transform your smile, you may not feel ready to start treatment just yet. By closely following your orthodontist’s instructions, you will see the results in just a matter of time. Until you first get your aligners, there are some steps that you may want to take in order to prepare for orthodontic treatment. Continue reading to learn some tips.

1 – Go Easy on the Snacks

This may be the most difficult step to take, so it’s only fitting that it comes first. If you’re someone who likes to snack throughout the day, you should know that this isn’t a great idea when you have Invisalign. Since you need to take out your aligners every single time you eat and thoroughly brush before putting them back in, too many snacks become impractical. Try to fill up on a few meals throughout the day instead. Pick nutrient dense, yet filling foods – like healthy fats, lean proteins, and complex carbohydrates so you don’t get hungry. By gradually limiting the snacks, it will be easier when you get your Invisalign.

2 – Brush After Every Meal

Once you start your Invisalign treatment, it will be necessary for you to brush your teeth after each meal. This way, you can prevent food from getting stuck in your trays and wreaking havoc on your teeth. You might as well get started with this step early so you will already be in the habit when you get your aligners. It will also help you to navigate uncertain territories, like what to do if you are at a restaurant or having lunch at work. Use a soft-bristled toothbrush and toothpaste that contains fluoride.

3 – Assemble a Dental Kit to Take on the Go

Since you will be needing to brush more often to keep your smile and aligners clean, it’s a good idea to put together a dental kit that you can take with you. Pick out a travel-sized toothbrush, toothpaste, and pre-threaded floss. A mini-sized mouthwash is also an excellent addition for extra freshness.

4 – Put Together Your Financial Plan

When you are committing to orthodontic treatment, you’re investing in your smile. To ensure that your experience is as stress-free as possible, it’s a good idea to figure out the financial aspects of it up-front. Ask your dental team about your dental insurance benefits and other financial options that are available to you. This way, you can come up with a plan that works best for you and your budget.

You want to get Invisalign, so now’s the time to get prepared! By making these changes in your everyday routine, you can get a head start when adjusting to your orthodontic treatment.
